How
the Mortar Net Works
The Mortar Net TM is placed on the top of the flashing inside the cavity,
where it catches and permanently suspends mortar droppings above the level
of the weep holes and flashing, so weeps stay open. Its unique dovetail
shape prevents mortar from forming a continuous dam, and its shape in
combination with its 90% open mesh configuration allow water and air to
rapidly and easily move through the material to the weeps.
Technical Data
1" thick (nominal) Mortar Net TM is manufactured of High Density Polyethylene
(HDPE), and .8" and .4" (nominal) are manufactured from nylon. Neither
material will react with common building materials, including PVC, Polyethylene,
Polystyrenes, copper, lead, rubberized asphalt or stainless steel, nor
will they absorb or trap water or support mold or fungus. The Mortar
Net TM is designed to last for the life of the building.
Installation
After the first one or two course of brick are laid, place one continuous
row of the Mortar Net TM in the collar joint or cavity on the flashing
against the inside of the outer wythe at the base of the wall, zig-zag
side up (as shown). No adhesives or fasteners are required, and the
mortar need not have set. For cavities larger than 1", several thickness
of the Mortar Net TM may be combined or rigid insulation extending at
least 6" above the top of the Mortar Net TM may be used as a filler.
The Mortar Net TM is equally effective in masonry, steel and wood stud
cavity walls.
